Repro Worker Aid Fund FAQ

Hi. Hello. We love you, repro worker. The fact that you’re reading this is heartbreaking. Our movement deserved better than what our government is currently offering us. You did all you could to make sure people were able to access abortion care for as long as you could. We hope that in this moment, we can help you as much as possible. Below are some answers to questions that you may have about our Repro Worker Aid Fund and your application. If you have additional questions, feel free to email us at hello+aid@reprojobs.org.

Why are you doing this?

Because we love repro workers and you deserve support. We wish we could provide more support but in the spirit of mutual aid, we're sharing all we have.

How much money is it?

As of July 30th, we have raised $280,000 to grant to as many repro workers as possible.

Who is eligible?

Repro workers in the reproductive health, rights, and justice movements who are out of work due to the Supreme Court's decision to overturn Roe v. Wade and criminalize abortion. If you say “abortion” fiftyleven times at work, yes, you are eligible. Please note that due to some unfortunate circumstances and scam attempts, we must now require a verification of employment.

What am I being paid for?

You're contributing to a blog that will be featured on our website. Your input will be used to document this moment. On the application, we ask folks to include a sentence or two. We will only publish your words, not your name or any other identifying information.

Who is paying for this?

The Worker Aid Fund is generously supported by several funders who wish to remain anonymous. We are willing and able to receive additional funds should any other funders want to support the Worker Aid Fund. Scroll down for more info.

Can I apply multiple times?

No, unfortunately. The funds are limited and we are trying to help as many workers as possible. We received an initial investment of $200,000 and are distributing that on a first come first served basis. This may change if we receive additional funding.

Am I guaranteed the amount I ask for?

In most cases, yes. However, if you receive severance that is higher than the majority of other applicants, we may grant a lower amount to try and support those most in need.

What if my clinic hasn't closed yet, can I still apply?

Unfortunately, no. We are currently prioritizing people who are out of work due to clinic closures, organizational shutdowns, and work stoppages in reaction to the Supreme Court’s decision to allow states to criminalize abortion.

How long will it take me to get paid?

You will be notified of acceptance by email 2-3 business days after submitting your application. Once your paperwork is submitted it takes approximately 3-4 weeks for our fiscal sponsor to issue payments on their schedule and for funds to be deposited into your account. Payments can take 3-4 weeks to process due to the volume of requests, our fiscal sponsor's approval process and finance department’s process and payment schedule, delays due to errors in submitted paperwork, and bank holds, all of which are out of ReproJobs' control. While most payments are received and processed within 2 weeks, paperwork with delays take longer to process. Please ensure all of your forms are signed and bank account numbers are listed correctly on your forms when submitting your paperwork to ensure a faster process. Please note that due to some unfortunate circumstances and scam attempts, we must now require a verification of employment.

If I receive severance will I be rejected?

No, however, if you receive a large severance that may impact the amount of funding you receive. We are doing our best to provide support to as many people as possible.

Will I have to pay taxes on this income?

It is possible that you will. If your payment is over $600, or you receive a total sum of over $600 from organizations who use NEO Philanthropy as a fiscal sponsor, the funds you receive will be considered income and will be taxed. NEO Philanthropy will send everyone a tax form to the address listed on your W-9 form in January of 2023.

On my bank statement who will it say the money came from?

The funds will be deposited in to your account via a direct deposit from NEO Philanthropy.

It will NOT note ReproJobs on the payment.

Can you process payment without paperwork?

No. We are unable to process any payments without a completed and signed W-9 and direct deposit form. Incomplete paperwork and paperwork with errors will cause a delay in processing payments. In order to receive payment, you must have a US bank account. Please note that due to some unfortunate circumstances and scam attempts, we must now require a verification of employment.

Where is my payment?

Please check your inbox for the email that you listed when you applied to see if there is an email from us indicating that we need corrections on your paperwork addressed. Many people are not signing their W9 forms or are listing incorrect bank routing and account numbers which is significantly delaying payments.

If you have been notified that your payment was accepted and is being processed, it is in the hands of our fiscal sponsor and will be coming to you soon. While we will process payments when we receive them, our fiscal sponsor’s finance department processes and issues payments for all of their projects on a strict schedule which can take 3-4 weeks to process payments from start to finish. Payments can take 3-4 weeks to process due to the volume of requests, our fiscal sponsor's approval process and finance department’s process and payment schedule, delays due to errors in submitted paperwork, and bank holds, all of which are out of ReproJobs' control. Please ensure all of your forms are signed and bank account numbers are listed correctly on your forms when submitting your paperwork to ensure a faster process.

Additionally, banks sometimes hold payments received on a Friday until the following business day for processing. We have heard that some people’s payments were paid out on the Friday schedule, but they are not able to access it until the following business day due to their bank’s policies.

Can I donate to the Worker Aid Fund?

Unfortunately, no, we are not set up to receive individual donations, but we encourage you to donate to KeepOurClinics.org to support clinics and their workers.

Can my foundation or donor advised fund donate to the Worker Aid Fund?

Yes! If you are a funder or philanthropist and would like to donate to the Worker Aid Fund, please email us at hello@reprojobs.org. We will radically redistribute your wealth.
